Easter Egg Painting Comp

The Easter Egg-box painting competition at the Gallery which was judged by Amelia Reynolds from BBC Look East on 23rd March.

Comments and quotes from Amelia about the entries include:

“I was delighted to be asked to judge Willow Gallery’s Easter Egg box painting competition, although it was incredibly difficult as they are all really lovely and look wonderful together, making a fabulous Easter display.  It can be a real challenge painting this particular shape and with the pre-formed design so all the children have done exceptionally well in creating something that not only looks really special but they will have it to keep as a memento to treasure.”

Of the 3 winning categories, Amelia said the following:                                              Under 5’s Millie Bunting, age 4  “With Millie’s egg there is an impressive symmetry of pattern and an excellent use of colour.  The brown base gives the illusion of being a delicious chocolate Easter egg and there is a really pretty pattern inside. A very good effort.”

A close second in this category was Charlotte Purling, age 3.  Amelia particularly liked the decoration on the lid using a lovely mix of colours.

5-9year olds  Esme Abbott, age 9 “This one caught my eye straight away, I particularly like the jewel-like use of colours creating a textured 3D effect.  The gold detail on the ribbon was a really lovely touch and a really good use of design inside. Over-all, a really sophisticated style for one so young and a superb effort.”

A close second in this category:  Molly Orford, age 5.  Amelia thought Molly’s had a really good design creating a cracked egg effect and a great use of colours.  She loved the bunny inside, a really nice surprise.

10+  Katie Stangroom age 13: “I think this is wonderful and completely captured a Spring-like quality of Easter and gave an excellent reference to the Easter story detailed in the design and using a beautiful choice of colours.” Amelia’s daughter, Cleo, particularly liked this one and wanted to take it home!

Millie, Esme and Katie each won a £40 voucher to use in the ceramic studio and we look forward to seeing them all in the near future.
